RACE TEST is Britain's first facility to examine the performance of remotely-operated and robotic systems against international standards.

RACE TEST is Britain’s first facility to examine the performance of remotely-operated and robotic systems against international standards.

A comprehensive suite of tests assess manoeuvrability; durability; mobility; reliability; sensing; logistics and dexterity. Additional checks evaluate safety; communications; autonomy; energy consumption and operator proficiency. RACE TEST will additionally help train the operators of the robots. The design of the lanes originates from the typical environment that a UGV may encounter – they have also been designed to be scaled up or down depending on the size of the UGV and the area of operation.

2018 has already seen two British companies returning and building on the success of RACE TEST’s industry demonstration day in November 2017[1].

RACE TEST also has the capabilities to test Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones and is linked with the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nuclear (RAIN) EPSRC hub, which is investigating how best to support the nuclear industry to speed up robotic integration into this key sector.
