Description: This contract is for the manufacturing, assembly, testing and inspection for 16 shielding lids, to be used in the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden.   Each pit lid is constructed from high density reinforced concrete, encased in an 8mm welded stainless steel shell. The pit lids each have some variation in shape and size, with weights in the region of 15-25t. The exterior plates form a labyrinth design, to attenuate radiation. There are also 5 location frames to be constructed, from stainless steel angle bar. These frame form a base upon which a set of pit lids are placed.   UKAEA has manufactured a prototype pit lid to investigate the manufacturing challenges associated with this design. The Lessons Learnt reports from this will be available.   This is a build to print contract. UKAEA has produced detailed drawings to which the product will be assessed. No design work is required.
